University of Pisa
Educational Center “Polo della Memoria San Rossore 1938”
Via Risorgimento, at the corner of Via Nicola Pisano, 56125 Pisa, Italy
The conference venue is located in the historic center of Pisa, just a short walk from the famous Leaning Tower in Piazza dei Miracoli and the Arno River. It is easily accessible on foot from the city center.
Important: The conference venue is commonly referred to as "Polo Didattico San Rossore", but it should not be confused with either the San Rossore Park or the San Rossore train station, which are in different locations.
The San Rossore 1938 Educational Center (3,000 sqm, 13,000 cubic meters, 11 classrooms, 4 laboratories, 1,300 seats) is situated in the heart of Pisa, between the medieval city walls and the Leaning Tower. It has been designated as the “Polo della Memoria” (Center of Remembrance) to honor the Honorary Degree in Science for Peace awarded to Liliana Segre. This was in memory of the "Ceremony of Remembrance and Apology" held in 2018, marking the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Italian Racial Laws by King Vittorio Emanuele III at the San Rossore estate in Pisa on September 5, 1938—a date that marked the beginning of the persecution of Italian Jews. By choosing this name, the University of Pisa aims to reaffirm its commitment to defending and promoting the values of democracy, freedom, equality, fraternity, and the right to dignity for every human being.
